NEW FILM AND TV PROJECTS SET TO GO INTO PRODUCTION

Three major productions are set to film in Ireland over the next few months. ROUGH DIAMOND, a new primetime series from the makers of BALLYKISSANGEL set in the Irish horse racing world is currently in pre-production. The project is being produced by World Productions and co-produced by Element Films for the BBC and RTE. The series is currently in pre-production and will film for fourteen weeks in Meath and Kildare from the end of July.

Jane Austen’s NORTHANGER ABBEY, a TV film for Granada is set to go into pre-production in Ireland next Monday. The series is written by Andrew Davies (Circle of Friends) and will be directed by Jon Jones. No cast have been confirmed yet. Previous Granada TV films filmed in Ireland include Whatever Love Means, Watermelon and Malice, A Forethought.

Another project going into pre-production next month is KITCHEN, a two-part drama for UK Channel 5, which will be filmed on location in Ireland for six weeks. The TV drama will be directed by Irish director Kieran J. Walsh (When Brendan Met Trudy) with a budget of €3.7 million and will shoot in Hannaywood Studios in Cabra, Dublin. KITCHEN is produced by Octagon Films and Ecosse Films who recently co-produced the feature film BECOMING JANE starring Jane Hathaway and James McAvoy in Ireland, with finance from the Irish Film Board

Other Irish films currently in pre-production include 32A, a story about the nature of teenage friendship, writen and to be directed by Marion Quinn and KINGS an Irish language feature film. KINGS will be directed by Tom Collins (Dead Long Enough), produced by Newgrange Pictures and will go into production in September.
