THREE IRISH FILMS SCREEN AT THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
For the second year running three Irish films will be screening at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival which runs from 7th - 16th September.The Irish animated film THE UGLY DUCKLING AND ME, a story which is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s much loved fairytale, will have its world premiere as part of the Sprockets Family Zone. The category is new to the festival and is dedicated to featuring films that represent the best in contemporary international children’s cinema.
THE UGLY DUCKLING AND ME features the voice talents of many Irish actors including Morgan Jones, Paul Tylak & Barbara Bergin and is a cinema debut for Irish writer Mark Hodkinson. The film was produced by Galway-based Magma Films with finance from the Irish Film Board.
TRUE NORTH directed by Steve Hudsen and produced by Samson Films has been selected for the Discovery section of the festival. Irish films have had much success in the category in recent years with both OMAGH (2004) and THE MAGDALENE SISTERS (2002) taking the prize for Best Film. TRUE NORTH was produced with finance from the Irish Film Board.
Ken Loache's award winning film THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY will also have its North America premiere in Toronto, screening the the Masters section.
