Filming begins on Irish language feature film KINGS
Principal photography has started on KINGS the story of a group of Irish emigrants who reunite for a day for the funeral of one of their friends. Internationally acclaimed actor Colm Meaney features in the ensemble cast along with Donal O’Kelly, Brendan Conroy, Donncha Crowley, Barry Barnes and Seán Ó Tarpaigh.The friends had emigrated to England in the late 70s promising to return to Ireland rich and successful. Now 25 years on, only one is going home, Jackie - his body was found on the railway, crushed by a passing train. It is when his friends are forced to confront the possibility it was no accident, but suicide, that they must face up to the bitter chill of truth.
KINGS is adapted for the screen by the director Tom Collins (Bogwoman, Dead Long Enough & Teenage Kicks - The Undertones) from Jimmy Murphy’s critically acclaimed play “The Kings of the Kilburn High Road”. The Producer is Jackie Larkin at Newgrange Pictures and UK Co-Producer Michael Casey.
KINGS is a mainly Irish language bilingual feature film produced in Ireland and fully financed from within the island of Ireland. Substantial funding has come from the Irish Film Board, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, TG4, the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission and the Irish Language Broadcast Fund representing a strong endorsement of Irish language filmmaking in this country.
KINGS will shoot for 5 weeks on location in and around Belfast, Dublin and London. The Director of Photography is P.J. Dillon, Production Designer David Craig, Costume Designer Maggie Donnelly and hair/makeup supervisor Pamela Smyth.
