WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY & THE FRONT LINE SCREEN FOR KOREAN AUDIENCES
With more than 60 feature films, animations and documentaries out of a total of 245 films from 63 countries, Europe represents the largest group of non-Asian productions at the 11th edition of the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF, 12 20 October 2006). European Film Promotion (EFP), of which Ireland is a member, will support the European film programme by bringing a delegation of 23 European film artists and producers from 15 different countries to the event. Thanks to the financial support from the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, EFP will organize presentations, film screenings and special events, with the aim of introducing European cinema and the talent behind it to Asian audiences, press and industry. EFP’s presence will include a presentation of the European delegation before the open air screening of Ken Loach’s THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY. David Gleeson's film THE FRONT LINE starring Eriq Ebouaney (Kingdom of Heaven), James Frain (24) and Gerard McSorley (Omagh) will also screen at the festival.
95 sales companies have registered for the inaugural Asian Film Market (October 15-18). The Market brings together the “Pusan Promotion Plan” (PPP) the largest Asian forum for networking co-productions and co-finance deals and the “Busan International Film Commission and Industry Showcase” (BIFCOM). Sales offices, market screenings, buyer and production services as well as advice on financing tools will help to expand the Asian film arena. In addition to Asian projects, PPP includes non-Asian territories for the first time in order to explore a much wider spectrum of the film industry. Among the 36 selected projects are one from France, one from the United Kingdom and one from Turkey. In the heart of the market EFP will be present with an industry office to offer space for promotional materials and business meetings.
For the third consecutive year, EFP will provide Film Sales Support (FSS) to European sales agents with films screening at the Pusan International Film Festival. This financial support is targeted towards extra marketing and promotion efforts at the festival with the aim of assisting sales to the Asian territories. On Monday, October 16th, EFP will host an industry cocktail to bring this year’s FSS beneficiaries in contact with Asian distributors and exhibitors. Details about the sales agents and production companies being awarded the FSS grants for Pusan this year will be announced October 9th together with a complete list of the supported films.
