Oscailt Short Features Premiering At Cork Film Festival
The Cork Film Festival 2006 will be the venue for the premiere screening of the Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ Irish Film Board funded Oscailt Short Films; Gafa, Spota and Marion & Banphrionsa. Gafa was produced by Icebox Films and directed by John Gleeson. Dearg Films produced Spota with Brian Reddin directing. Marion & Banphrionsa was directed by Melanie Clark Pullen and produced by Abri Films. The Oscailt scheme aims to encourage original talent in all areas of Irish language short film making. The three Irish language films will be shown on Saturday 14th October at 13.30 at the Kino Cinema.
The much anticipated screening of Middletown, directed by Brian Kirk also features at the Festival. Written by Daragh Carville and starring Matthew MacFadyen, Daniel Mays, Eva Birthistle and Gerard McSorley, the film chronicles the events when an overzealous priest returns to his home town and ends up battling against his brother for the heart of the locals. Middletown is due for nationwide release on November 3rd.
Other BSÉ/IFB screening to note as part of the Festival programme include the extensive screening of Irish short films including The Faeries of Blackheath Wood, The Boy With The Ever Open Jaw, Pilgrim, Badly Drawn Boy and Last Night. Two BSÉ/IFB backed documentaries will also be broadcast in Cork, The Temple Builder and Experimental Conversations.
