'Small Engine Repair’ has won the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland Directors Finders Series Award 2006
Small Engine Repair’ director Niall Heery has won the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland Directors Finders Series Award 2006.Debut feature director Heery was selected by an international panel of experts as the recipient of this year’s award. The award was formally presented by Perry Ogden (Pavee Lackeen), winner of the 2005 Directors Finders Series Award, at an SDGI reception in Dublin this week.
Niall will screen his film in the Directors Guild of America theatre in LA on the 27th of October , after a week meeting with distributors and agents. With feature director Paul Quinn. (This is My Father) member of SDGI and DGA hosting a post screening Q+A.
Written and directed by Heery, ‘Small Engine Repair’ is a humorous drama about a man called Doug (Iain Glen) whose incredible talent as a country and western musician goes unnoticed, save for the support of his best friend.
Niall has previously written and directed shorts and music promos including the award winning ‘Summit’ and ‘Wired to the Moon’. Television work includes ‘The Devil in Disguise’. ‘Small Engine Repair’ is his first feature and won best first film at the Galway Fleadh.
Heery said: “I am thrilled that Small Engine Repair has won this award. It's a great opportunity for both myself and the film, as it's so difficult for any European film to crack the US market and secure distribution. I'm really looking forward to the US showcase and hope to make the most of it.”
