IFB funded shorts win at Kerry Film Festival

Films funded under the Irish Film Board 2006 Short Shorts film scheme have picked up major awards at the Samhlaíocht Kerry Film Festival this weekend. The Faeries of Blackheath Woods written & directed by Ciaran Foy scooped the award for the Best Irish Short and the animated short Pilgrim written and directed by Matthew Darragh won the ward for Best Director. The White Dress, written and directed by Vanessa Gildea also won a Special Recommendation in the Best Irish Short category.

The Faeries of Blackheath Woods, a three minute fantasy/horror piece, has had a very successful run on the International Film Festival circuit having scooped three awards for Best Fantasy Short, Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects at The Terror Film Festival in Philadelphia USA, and has also picked up the Méliès d’Or nomination for Best Short at Cinenygma Luxembourg International Film Festival. The Méliès d’Ors are Europes highest commendations in fantasy film making. The 11th Méliès d’Ors ceremony will take place Lund in Sweden next September

Pilgrim will shortly be released in Irish cinemas by Buena Vista International (Ireland) with the feature film Santa Claus 3.
