Irish Short Film 'Final Journey' nominated for a Méliès d´Or
Irish Film Board SHORT SHORT "Final Journey" produced by SP Films received a Méliès d'Argent award at the Scienceplusfiction Film Festival in Trieste, Italy, and has therefore been nominated for a Méliès d´Or.Written and directed by Brendan Muldowney, and produced by Conor Barry, the film stars John Burke.
The European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF) organises the Méliès d’Or Award. In the first stage, each participating festival organises a Competition during its event, at the end of which a European film is awarded with a Méliès d’Argent. This film is automatically nominated to take part in the Méliès d’Or Competition.
This is the first year that two Irish films have been nominated for a Méliès d´Or in the same year, as another IFB SHORT SHORT "The Faeries of Blackheath Woods" (director - Ciaran Foy) was nominated at the Cinénygma Luxembourg International Film Festival .
Last year, SP Films previous short film "The Ten Steps" (director - Brendan Muldowney) was also nominated, and the year before that, Vico Films "The Carpenter and his Clumsy Wife" (director - Peter Foott) was nominated for a Méliès d´Or at the Ravenna Nightmare Film Festival.
The 11th Méliès d'Or Ceremony will take place at the Lund International Fantastic Film Festival in September 2007.
