THREE MAJOR AWARDS FOR 'TRUE NORTH'
TRUE NORTH written and directed by Steve Hudson, has won three major awards at the Cherbourg Film Festival in France last weekend, including Best Film and Best Actress for Anjel Li.TRUE NORTH tells the story of a young fisherman who decides to transport a group of Chinese illegal immigrants from mainland Europe to Scotland on his father’s fishing trawler. Desperate for money when they have not landed a decent catch for months, he feels that this is the only way to save his father’s business and self respect. His intention is to sail directly home and off load his human cargo as quickly as possible. However, what should have been a relatively short journey turns into days at sea as his father chases the catch of a lifetime.
The film features a cast led by Peter Mullan, Cannes & Venice winner, BAFTA Award nominee (THE MAGDALENE SISTERS, MY NAME IS JOE, ORPHANS), Gary Lewis (BILLY ELLIOT; AE FOND KISS) and Martin Compston (SWEET SIXTEEN).
TRUE NORTH was produced by Sonja Ewers and Benjamina Mirnik of Ariel Films, Germany, Eddie Dick of Makar Productions, Scotland and David Collins of Samson Films, Ireland.
