New strand of Short Shorts showcase upcoming filmmakers at the Galway Film Fleadh
The latest new Irish short films, which showcases the work of a host of Irish writers and directors, will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh.
The Short Shorts scheme is a showcase of new projects which are only 3 minutes in length. Successful films from this scheme include Ruairí Robinson's film 50% Grey which was nominated for an Oscar in 2002. Other Short Shorts films which have been released with feature films over the past few years including Pilgrim which was on release with Santa Claus 3 and Some Kind of Voodoo which was released with Scary Movie 3.
The latest strand of Short Shorts features a mix of live action and animated films including The Treeclimber to be directed by Michael Kinirons and produced by Princess Pictures. Kinirons' won the Best Script Award at the Kerry Film Festival in 2005 and directed a four part documentary series Blood & Ink for TG4 in 2006. The Treeclimber is produced by Sasha King who has produced the Conrad Gallagher Documentary for RTE.
The Blaxorcist is directed and produced by the team behind the successful micro-budget horror flick Dead Meat. However, this time Edward King is in the director's seat and Conor McMahon is producing.
Directed by Ciaran Deeney Wicklow: The Garden of Ireland stars Mark Huberman and is a surreal tale of one of Ireland's elite murderers as he picks, plants and tends for the dead buried deep in the Wicklow mountains, with El Zorrero Films producing.
Pump Action is directed by Frank Reid whose editing credits include a number of award winning short films including The White Dress and Joyride. Pump Action is produced by Stitch Films.
The End is Night directed by James Cotter whose previous short Eggs has toured the international festival circuit. The End is Night is produced by Vico Films and tells a tale of a farmer who discovers an ancient amulet with the power to destroy the world.
Animated short feature strongly in this years short shorts line-up. Red Ball is directed by Alan Holly and produced by Barley Films. Barley Films previously produced one of the most successful IFB short films Agricultural Report which screened in 82 festivals and picked up ten international awards.
Other animated shorts include A Day In The Life Of Richard written and directed by Boru, which documents a day in the life of Richard, a six foot penis, trying to adjust to normal society. A Day In The Life Of Richard is produced by Hot Drop Films.
Keeping in Touch is directed by Ross McDonnell and produced by Lovely Productions. Lovely Productions have previously produced the award winning shorts Changes and Defaced. McDonnell has already shown promise as a photographer winning a Special Commendation for the Observer Hodge Award for Photojournalism in 2005 and has worked on a number of short and feature films.
Revelations was directed by Jane Lee whose previous credits include the IFB short film Bare which won numerous international awards and produced by Paper Plane Creations. Revelations is poignant reminder of youth is a simply drawn tale of opening up and shutting down.
Revolution 365.1 is directed by Sean Roxenham, written, written by Anne Kenny and produced by Restoration Films. Revolution tells of a sock who, desperate to escape the monotony of sock life, undertakes a daring and dangerous adventure.
