TEETH opens with HALLAM FOE
Award winning Irish short film Teeth, which recently scooped the Best Irish Short Film prize at the Galway Film Fleadh in July, has been selected for theatrical distribution by Buena Vista International (Ireland) and will open in cinemas nationwide in front of feature film HALLAM FOE from August 31st.
Directed by John Kennedy and Ruairí O'Brien, Teeth is a short "last laugh" tale of two old friends, their teeth and a series of events that leaves them lost for words. The idea for Teeth was based on a story director Ruairí heard from his father, actor Niall O'Brien who stars in the short film with Niall Tobin.
Teeth has screened at a host of major international festivals including Brussels Short Film Festival and Huesca Film Festival Spain. The film's producer Noreen Donohoe of Divamedia who attended the ‘Message To Man Film Festival' St. Petersburg, Russia with Teeth said "I'm really delighted that Teeth will reach an Irish cinema audience before continuing its festival run this autumn - it's a gem of a film". Teeth is due to play at the Palm Springs Film Festival LA, Sapporo Short Film Festival Japan; Short Film Festival in Drama Greece, Festival Du Cinéma Qubec Canada; Zagreb Film Festival Croatia; and the Brest Film Festival later this year.
Other Irish short films making a mark at the moment include Blind Man's Eye directed by Matthew Talbot which is the only Irish film selected for the prestigious Venice International Film festival at the end of the month. Deep Breaths directed by the much acclaimed cinematographer PJ Dillon (Kings, 32A, Dead Long Enough) will screen at the Montreal Film Festival and at the Palm Springs festival which runs from the 23 - 29 August. Other Irish shorts screening at Palm Springs include Flyboy directed by Keelan O'Rourke.
Teeth was produced as part of the short film scheme Short Shorts funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board. Short Shorts aims to create imaginative, cinematic films showcasing work from both new and experienced Irish filmmakers. Shot on location in Glendalough Co. Wicklow, Teeth was edited by Philip Cullen, with an original score by Giles Packham of Waveform Studios, and post production by Windmill Lane.
