Once shortlisted for European Film Awards

ONCE, the Irish film directed by John Carney and produced by Samson Films has been shortlisted for the 20th European Film Awards.

The European Film Academy announced this week the titles of 42 films from 26 countries which have made the selection list for the awards, which will take place in Berlin on December 1st.

These films were selected by EFA members and a Selection Committee, with the 20 countries with the most EFA members voting one national film directly to the list and the Selection Committee then including other films.

Over the next month, the 1,800 members of the EFA will vote for the nominations in the different award categories, with the nominations being announced on November 3 at the Sevilla Festival de Cine Europeo in Spain.

This is yet another success for ONCE, which Steven Spielberg recently praised, saying it gave him ‘enough inspiration to last the rest of the year'. With financing from Bord Scannan na hEireann / the Irish Film Board and RTE, the film has taken over $7m to date in the US Box Office.
