Irish Films screen at BFI London Film Festival
Award-winning feature GARAGE, directed by Lenny Abrahamson, has been selected to screen at the BFI 51st London Film Festival which takes place from 17th October - 1st November.GARAGE, written by Mark O'Halloran won the CICAE Art and Essai Cinema Prize at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It tells the story of Josie (Pat Shortt), a caretaker of a crumbling petrol station and his hapless search for intimacy in a small town in rural Ireland.
It was produced by Ed Guiney, executive produced by Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures and co-financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board, Film4, RTÉ and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.
Abrahamson and O'Halloran have worked together on the film Adam & Paul and on the television series Prosperity, which is currently being aired on RTE.
The short DEEP BREATHS, directed by PJ Dillon has also been selected to screen at the festival. The 15 minute psychological thriller stars Alan Leech (Love is the Drug and Man About Dog) and Amy Huberman (The Clinic) and was produced by Alex Jones and Stockyard Pictures as part of the IFB's Short Cuts scheme.
Dillon, who is well known for his director of photography credits on feature films such as Kings and 32A, as well as RTE programmes The Big Bow Wow, Legend and Stew has previously directed the IFTA winning Headwrecker.
DEEP BREATHS will screen as part of a 90-minute selection of international shorts entitled ‘Me and You, You and Me' which looks at the topic of relationships.
Other films in the line-up are Richard Attenborough's Closing the Ring which was shot on location in Ireland, and Mister Lonely which is an Irish co-production with France, Britain and the USA.
