Continued success for IFB funded films

Saviours, the documentary directed by Liam Nolan and Ross Whitaker has scooped the top prize at the first Waterford Film Festival this weekend.  Produced by Street Films with funding from the IFB, the film was awarded the Best Feature Documentary prize.  The new festival showcased a wide range of films from features, documentaries, animation, short films, experimental to student work.

Teeth, directed by Ruairi O'Brien and John Kennedy has won the Grand Prix Cocette Minute Award (Best Short Under 6 Minutes) at the Brest Film Festival in France this month.  This follows its success at the Sapporo Festival in Japan, where it won the Best Short Film in September and at the Galway Film Fleadh in July where it won the Tiernan McBride Award for Best Irish Short.

The short film, which was produced by Noreen Donohoe as part of the IFB's Short Shorts scheme was also released in cinemas in Ireland by Buena Vista International with the feature film Hallam Foe.

Another IFB funded short film to achieve success this year is Joyriders.  Directed by Rebecca Daly and produced by Rachel Lysaght for the Short Cuts scheme 2006, it was the Best Short Film winner at the IFTA's earlier this year and has gone on to achieve Special Recommendations at the Belfast Film Festival and Festival de Cine Huesca.
