Two Grammy Award nominations for Irish film ONCE

The award winning Irish film Once continues its successful run this week with nominations in two different categories for the 50th Annual GRAMMY® Awards.  The film has received nominations in the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture category and the song “Falling Slowly” featured in the film is nominated in the Best Song category.

Once directed and written by John Carney (Bachelors Walk, On the Edge) stars Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova in the leading roles and is a modern-day musical set on the streets of Dublin telling the story of a busker and an immigrant, who fall in love over an eventful week, as they write, rehearse and record a number of songs. The film will compete with US films Dream Girls and Hairspray in the Best Compilation Soundtrack category

The film won the World Cinema Audience Award in the dramatic category at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and went on to take over $10 million at the North American box office.

Once has also been listed as one of the top ten independent films this year by the US National Board of Review, other films listed here include A Mighty Heart starring Angelia Jolie. Once has also just been nominated for the Film Independent Spirit awards and is listed on www.oscarwatch.com as a film to watch for the Oscars.

Once is produced by Samson Films with finance from Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board. The Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 10th 2008.
