Irish short The Wednesdays selected for top French Film Festival

The Irish short film The Wednesdays which was was directed by first-time director and co-writer Conor Ferguson has been selected for competition at the 30th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. Co-written by Luke Clancy and produced by Anne-Marie Naughton of Park Films, it is a tale of an elderly couple who manage to re-kindle their love for each other every Wednesday with the help of some ecstacy tablets.

The Clermont-Ferrand Festival is one of the most important international short film festivals. From the 4,500+ shorts which registered for this years festival from all around the world, only 73 have been selected for competition. The Wednesdays is the only Irish film in the running.

The short film, which received support from the Irish Film Board, has already proven very popular with audiences at festivals in Galway, Cork, Dingle and Boston, as well as the Electric Picnic. It is also being used as part of the training programme at the European Film College in Denmark.

This latest success for an Irish short follows the success of three Irish short films which have been selected for the Sundance Film Festival. Farewell Packets of Ten and Scoring directed by Ken Wardrop, along with The Sound of People directed by Simon Fitzmaurice have been selected for the festival which takes place 17th - 26th January.

The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival will take place 1st - 9th February.
