Daniel Day Lewis Wins Golden Globe for 'There will be Blood' Performance
Daniel Day Lewis has won a Golden Globe Award Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance in THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
Other Irish nominees who received nominations but ultimately no awards include Jonathan Rhys Meyers for his performance in THE TUDORS, Saoirse Ronan as Best Supporting Actress for her role in ATONEMENT and James Nesbit for his performance in JEKYLL. THE TUDORS was also nominated in the Best TV Series Drama category.
The period romance ATONEMENT and Tim Burton's adaptation of the murderous musical SWEENEY TODD, were named the top movies of 2007 winning the awards for Best Feature and Best Musical or Comedy respectively.
As a result of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association being unable to make a deal with the striking Writers Guild of America, which would have allowed the Globes to be televised, the usual ceremony associated with the Globes was replaced by a news conference.

The Tudors
The first two series of the major TV series THE TUDORS, starring Irish Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Match Point), John Kavanagh (The Tiger's Tail), Nick Dunning (Alexander) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Tara Road) shot on location in Ireland over the last two years.
The second series of THE TUDORS focuses on the turbulent early years of King Henry VIII's reign as King of England, and shot on location for 5 months in Ardmore Studios and key locations around Dublin and Wicklow from June to November last year. The budget of the series is €25 million with the Irish spend of the project expected to be in the region of €15 million.
The first series of THE TUDORS was broadcast on the Showtime channel in the US last April and opened to one of the largest audience ever received by a Showtime series in the history of the channel. Previous locations on the series include Christchurch Cathedral, Kilruddery House, City Hall and Kilmainham Jail.
The series is in receipt of the IFB International Production Fund and as a result of this funding, there were two Irish directors Brian Kirk and Ciaran Donnolly attached to direct episodes of the first series and three Irish directors Ciaran Donnolly, Dearbhla Walsh and Colm McCarthy were attached to direct episodes on the second series. Irish costume designer Joan Bergin won an Emmy Award for Best Costume for her work on the series late last year.
THE TUDORS was produced by TM Productions and PA Tudors, with the support of Morgan O'Sullivan's production company World 2000 Entertainment. It is an official Irish/Canadian co-production and co-financed Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board through the IFB international production fund. The second series of THE TUDORS will be broadcast on Showtime in 2008.
It is hoped that the third series of the show will be greenlit to go into production in the spring.
Saoirse Ronan - Actress
Her role in Atonement, as Briony Tallis, a 13 year old fledgling writer who irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's (Keira Knightley) lover (James McAvoy) of a crime he did not commit, has earned Saoirse a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. This role also earned Saoirse a nomination for Best Young Actress at the Critic Choice Awards and a nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Drama at the Satellite Awards.
In 2008, she'll appear with Bill Murray in the action-fantasy City of Ember and star as a con artist in Death Defying Acts alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones. She also has the lead role in Peter Jackson's film version of The Lovely Bones.
