Special Screening of IFB Shorts at Jameson Dublin International Film Festival

The upcoming Jameson Dublin International Film Festival will showcase a special screening of Irish Film Board funded short films as part of the festival line-up.  It will offer a great opportunity for festival-goers to see both established and emerging filmmakers working in the Irish film industry.  Many of the films have been recognized and acclaimed both in Ireland and internationally and cover a diverse range of subjects and genres.


The Red Ball
(directed by Alan Holly) and Pump Action (directed by Frank Reid) were both produced for the IFB Short Shorts scheme and premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2007, where The Red Ball, an animation telling the story about a purple boy, a green ball, a red ball, a green girl, a red girl and a purple boy won Best Irish Short Animation.

The Basket Case, New Boy and Frankie were produced for the IFB Short Cuts scheme and also premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh.  The Basket Case (directed by Owen O'Neill) is a dark twisted comic tale of love, devotion, death and debt set in small town Ireland.  Frankie (directed by Darren Thornton) picked up the Best First Irish Short at the Galway Film Fleadh and went on to scoop the Best Irish Short Film award at the Corona Cork Film Festival for this story of Frankie, a young 15 year old boy who is preparing for fatherhood but slowly realizes how difficult it will be for him. 

New Boy (directed by Steph Green) is based on a short story by Roddy Doyle which captures the experience of a being a new boy in school.  It picked up the Best Short Film at the Dingle Film Festival last year as well as the Audience Award for Best International Short Film at the Corona Cork Film Festival 2007.

Bua (directed by Sonya Gildea), Rolla Saor and An Creatur were produced as part of the Oscailt Irish language scheme which premiered at the Corona Cork Film Festival in October, where Rolla Saor, which was directed by Cathal Watter won the Best Irish Language Short Film and An Creatur, which was directed by Peter Foott won the Audience Award for Best Irish Short Film.

Audiences will also have an opportunity to see a number of other successful shorts which have been selected to screen in A-List festivals over the past few months, and will screen in front of feature films throughout the festival.

The Wednesdays, directed by Conor Ferguson, tells the tale of two pensioners who discover a way to feel young again and re-discover the love they almost had forgotten about.  It has been selected for the upcoming Clermont Ferrand and Rotterdam Film Festivals. Award winning director Ken Wardrop, has two short films Farewell Packets of Ten and Scoring screening at the festival along with The Sound of People directed by Simon Fitzmaurice which have all just screened at the recent Sundance Film Festival where The Sound of People was also selected for competition at the festival. 

The Irish Film Board Shorts will screen on Tuesday 19th February at the IFI. 

The Wednesdays will screen before Irina Palm on Tuesday 19th February at 8.20pm in Screen 2

The Sound of People will screen before Charlie Bartlett on Monday 18th February at 8.20pm in Cineworld.

Scoring will screen before In Search of a Midnight Kiss on Saturday 23rd February at 5.30pm in Cineworld.

Farewell Packets of Ten will screen before Late Bloomers on Sunday 17th February at 4.00pm in Cineworld.

The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival takes place 15th February - 24th February.
