Irish talent honoured at British Film Awards
John Carney, the writer/director of the Irish film Once scooped the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Evening Standard British Film Awards this weekend. This is the latest win for the film, which is a contender for the upcoming Oscars in the Best Original Song category for Falling Slowly.Irish cinematographer, Seamus McGarvey picked up an award for his work on Atonement which has also earned him an Oscar nomination. Seamus previously won the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Technical/Artistic Achievement for his work on The Hours which starred Nicole Kidman.
The Best Actor award went to Irish citizen Daniel Day-Lewis for his role in There Will Be Blood. He has already picked up a Golden Globe for this role and is hotly tipped for Oscar and BAFTA wins.
