Annual Mid Ulster Film Festival Runs Offering New Workshops

The 5th Annual Mid Ulster Film Festival on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th May - a yearly tribute to independent cinema, showcasing a diverse program of features, documentaries, shorts, animation, workshops and seminars for an appreciative audience, will hold their launch in Chez Manu, Omagh this Thursday evening, 10th April at 7pm.

This year, the festival once again, boasts an eclectic program, ranging from socially conscious documentaries, such as ‘Woman’ and ‘The Journey’, to the colourful comedy of ‘Un Hombre Tranquilo’ (A Quiet Man), to the beautifully created animation of ‘Charred and Feathered’, mix this with over 50 short films, foreign-language films, workshops and seminars and you have a superb weekend celebration of film.

There will also be a number of workshops at the festival including ‘Scriptwriting Workshop’ given by Barry Devlin and a new workshop to the festival ‘Filmmaking for Beginners’. In this workshop, filmmaker Stephen Mullan will guide participants through the process of devising, producing, filming and editing a short drama. The workshops will run over two weekends, (26th & 27th April and the 3rd & 4 May) and will culminate in the film being premiered on the final night of the Mid Ulster Film Festival, as a support to the closing film.

For those of you who fancy your chances as a screenwriter the ‘Pitching Power’ event is aimed at you. If you have an idea for a fiction feature /short or pilot TV series, why not face the panel of judges drawn from the Film & TV Industry. There is no entry fee for this event and the winner will receive ‘Final Draft Software, the opportunity to work with Northern Ireland Screen and prize money of £500. This event is supported by Northern Ireland Screen.
