Award Winning Director Aisling Walsh to Take Part in 'In Focus' Panel
In Focus......Continuing Kildare County Council's support for film development in the county the Arts Service hosts ‘In Focus', a forum for exchange, discussion and screenings on Thursday 22nd May at 8.00pm, in The Auditorium, Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge.
A panel of industry professionals and filmmakers, including Aisling Walsh, director of award-winning Song For A Raggy Boy has been lined up to share their knowledge, experience and expertise. **The film will be screened in Riverbank at 5.00pm prior to the evening's conversation**.
Aisling was in Cannes this week to promote The Daisy Chain which features Oscar nominee Samantha Morton and Steven Mackintosh as a grieving couple who move to a remote Irish village after their baby daughter's death and they adopt an orphaned autistic child. Plans to make a feature film on the life of former MP Bernadette Devlin (now McAliskey) which will be directed by Aisling were also announced at the festival.
Aisling's television credits include Damage, which she wrote and directed and which was nominated for Prix Europa in 2007, Fingersmith, which was nominated for both a Bafta and Royal Television Society Award in 2005 and the multi award winning 2002 television film Sinners.
Also on the panel will be local, emerging filmmaker David Freyne, whose short musical The Man in 301 screened at the International Film Festival, Rotterdam, in January this year.
Suzanne Murray from the Irish Film Board will give a short presentation outlining the board's services and schemes.
The Arts Service of Kildare County Council who are hosting the event view the panel as an invaluable resource, which interested and aspiring filmmakers should take advantage of. The evening will be audience led and a great opportunity to share experiences and knowledge, network, support, offer advice and suggestions.
