New €10,000 Funding Award For Border Residents

The Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission, in association with the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism and Bord Scannán na hÈireann/the Irish Film Board is delighted to announce a new funding award to promote filmmaking in the border region.

‘The Edge' is a cross-border production award and is open to all genres - from documentary, short film, pilot, to new media projects.  The main criteria are that it can realistically be made for the award amount, it can act as a positive reflection of the region, the main creative team are from the border area and that the film is shot in the Louth, Newry & Mourne region.

Mairtín de Barra, Director of the Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission said: "This is a great opportunity to showcase the growing talent in the border area.  We want a project that will capture people's imagination, with a long shelf life and full of vibrancy. We are also keen on seeing pilots for format TV or TV series with the potential of further production taking place in the border region if the pilot is picked up."

"The Irish Film Board is committed to developing filmmaking talent nationwide and together with the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism continues to support and encourage cross-border initiatives. The completed project will showcase the fantastic locations that the Louth, Newry & Mourne region has to offer." said Mags O'Sullivan, Deputy Film Commissioner with the Irish Film Board.

"There is a tight production turnaround on this award but that's what makes it so exciting - you could write something this month and have it funded and finished by the end of the year." adds de Barra.

The application deadline is July 15th, with the project completed by the end of 2008 - and full application criteria can be found at
