International Success for Irish Documentary Talent

The Irish documentary CHIPPERS, directed and produced by Nino Tropiano, was awarded a Special Jury Mention after it screened at the Italian documentary festival ‘Hai Visto Mai' last Sunday.

CHIPPERS tells the story of Dublin's well-established community of four thousand Italians who have owned chip shops in the city since the 1900's and features archive footage of Dublin city.    The documentary was produced with funding from the IFB and Filmbase.

Another Irish documentary, SEAVIEW, will have its US premiere at Silverdocs, the International Film Festival which takes place in Washington DC from June 16-23.  Directed by Nicky Gogan and Paul Rowley, this will be its latest international festival screening following its official selection for the Forum at the Berlinale Film Festival in February and for the Hot Docs Festival in Canada in April.

SEAVIEW tells the intimate stories of the trauma, expectation and fear of exportation inside a holding centre for asylum seekers which was once an Irish holiday camp.  The documentary was produced by Paul Rowley, Nicola Gogan, Maya Derrington and Still Films with funding from the IFB, NYSCA and Darklight.

SEAVIEW will screen in the Irish Film Institute on Sunday 20th July as part of their ‘Ireland on Sunday' series.  This series is a showcase of new Irish film material in a monthly Sunday lunch-time slot, with audiences having the chance to engage in post screening Q&A's with directors and producers.  The programme will include Irish documentary and fictional films made for cinema, television and cultural exhibition.
