Strong Presence for new Irish Cinema at the Edinburgh Film Festival
World Premiere of A Film With Me In ItA FILM WITH ME IN IT, directed by Ian Fitzgibbon is having its world premiere at the 62nd Edinburgh Film Festival this week. It is one of seven Irish films screening at the festival which runs this week from 18-29 June.
The black comedy/thriller stars Dylan Moran and Mark Doherty as a dissolute scriptwriter and a struggling actor embroiled in a murder case. Produced by Alan Moloney and Susan Mullen for Parallel Film Productions with funding from the Irish Film Board, it also features Keith Allen, Aisling O'Sullivan and Amy Huberman.
Other IFB funded feature films screening are HELEN (Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor), EDEN (Declan Recks) and FAIRYTALE OF KATHMANDU (Neasa Ni Chianain).
HELEN, a psychological thriller written and directed by Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, is also having a world premiere at the festival. The Irish/UK co-production stars Annie Townsend as a loner whose life is changed after she plays a missing woman in a police reconstruction. The Edinburgh Film Festival describe the film as "the discover of the year, a subtle, sophisticated psychological drama".
EDEN, the film adaptation of the Eugene O'Brien play, premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year. Directed by Declan Recks, it recently screened at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, where Eileen Walsh picked up an award for Best Actress for her role in the film. EDEN was produced by Samson Films with funding from IFB, RTE and BCI.
FAIRYTALE OF KATHMANDU, the controversial documentary about Irish language poet Cathal O'Searcaigh, will also screen during the festival. Directed by Neasa Ni Chianain, it was produced by David Rane for Vinegar Hill.
Two IFB short films, Matthew Talbot-Kelly's BLIND MAN'S EYE and John McClosky's THE CRUMBLEGIANT are both screening at the festival. Both short animations were produced under the Frameworks scheme and premiered at last years Galway Film Fleadh. Since then BLIND MAN'S EYE was officially selected for the prestigious Venice Film Festival and THE CRUMBLEGIANT received a BAFTA nomination. Colin Quinn's NO REGRETS IN THE WEST will also screen at the festival and is in receipt of IFB Print Provision funding.
