'DAMBÉ-The Mali Project' to open in Light House Cinema, Dublin

The IFB funded feature length music documentary DAMBE - THE MALI PROJECT, which features musicians Liam O'Maonlaí and Paddy Keenan alongside respected African performers, will open for a limited engagement at the new Light House Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin, from Friday July 25th with a special preview screening on Thursday, July 24th.

The special advance screening of the film on July 24th will be followed by a performance from musicians Afel Bocoum & Alkibar, Liam O'Maonlaí and Paddy Keenan. The musicians and filmmakers will also take part in a q&a session after this screening.

The opening night will follow a free concert of the music from the film on 23rd July in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, which sold out rapidly. The concert will feature musicians Tinariwen, Afel Bocoum and Allkibar, Liam O'Maonlaí, Paddy Keenan and Caoimhín O'Raghallaigh. The opening night screening of the film at Light House Cinema will provide an additional opportunity for audiences to experience the extraordinary collaborations of the musicians in question.

Irish musicians Liam O'Maonlaí and Paddy Keenan embark on a musical adventure to the Heart of Africa; Mali. Travelling over 3,000 miles they meet and collaborate with everyone from legendary musicians (Afel Bocoum, Toumani Diabaté) to Nomadic Herders, culminating in a unique performance at the world's most remote musical festival; The 'Festival au Desert'. The film was directed by Dearbhla Glynn and produced by Vanessa Gildea for Luachra Productions. The film was supported by the Irish Film Board and The Arts Council.

'Dambé - The Mali Project' had its world premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year, where it received an ecstatic reception. The film came runner up in the audience award at the festival, where festival director Grainne Humphreys called it "a wonderfully authentic portrait of these traveling players, their endless curiosity about music and the musicians they meet; their truly extraordinary musical ability is both inspiring and quietly humbling."
