Presenting new IFB Live Action Films - Short Shorts

Live action films produced under the Short Shorts scheme include ENOUGH (Barry Dignam), ATLANTIC (Conor Ferguson), HOOR (John Kennedy), SHAPES (Alan Brennan) and WHATEVER TURNS YOU ON (Declan Cassidy).

Enough, written and directed by Barry Dignam tells a story about a young couple whose screaming argument goes unnoticed. Dignam’s previous credits include the short film Chicken which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival,  A Ferret Called Mickey and Dream Kitchen.  Enough is produced by Jean Rice who has over 20 years experience in the film industry.

Directed by John Kennedy and co-written by both Kennedy and Ruairi O’Brien who also shot the film, Hoor tells the story of three young lads who attempt to lose their virginity. Previously Kennedy and O’Brien co-directed the IFB funded short film Teeth. Teeth to date has won several awards including the Tiernan McBride award for Best Irish Short at the Galway Film Fleadh 2007. Hoor is produced by Mary McCarthy, the Oscar winning co-director on the Irish short film Six Shooter.

Written and directed by Conor Ferguson, with Liam Cunningham in the lead role, Atlantic is an intense, moving drama about a lonely farmer in the 1960s and the hope that blows in from the Atlantic. Ferguson is an advertising copyrighter and previously directed The Wednesdays which has picked up a host of awards including the Audience Award at Clermont Ferrand. Atlantic is produced by AnneMarie Naughton whose previous credits include Tara Road and she is presently in post production on a feature film entitled Next!

Whatever Turns You On written and directed by Declan Cassidy and produced by Bill Tyson, tells a humorous but poignant story of the need to belong. This director/producer team have previously worked together on a five-part television series, Dancing Dublin, and a five minute short film commission for Amnesty International.

Written and directed by Alan Brennan and produced by Heidi Madsen, Shapes is a short story about a woman, whose terrors are taking their toll on her relationship. Brennan’s previous short film credits include The Uncorruptibles, and Ball which have won a number of awards between them. Alan is currently writing a feature screenplay, Earthbound, also to be produced by Madsen with support from the IFB.  Madsen’s previous credits include It’s Some Kind of Voodoo which was released in Irish cinemas by Walt Disney Studios Ireland with Scary Movie 4.

The final Short Short is an animation film Colour Contamination, written and directed by IADT graduate Louise Bagnall, which tells a tale about a clean cut business man who is adverse to all things colourful, who enters a waiting room filled with colourful plastic chairs and is forced to confront his worst fears. Colour Contamination is produced by the Barley Films whose credits include the award winning Agriculture Report.
