A Very British Gangster opens in cinemas in LA and New York

A Very British Gangster, a documentary directed by Irish investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre opened in cinemas in LA and New York over the weekend to very positive reviews.

The documentary follows one of Britain's most dangerous crime families and introduces its magnetic, larger-than-life leader, Dominic Noonan (aka Lattlay Fottfoy).

The Hollywood Reporter said the film was ‘beautifully shot' while the Los Angeles Times described it as ‘stylish and compelling' and says that ‘if Tony Soprano had a cheekier, less haunted, openly gay British counterpart, it would be Dominic Noonan'.

Variety described the documentary as ‘one that explores an oft-exploited mob milieu and busts some of its fictional bubbles. These are troubling people, to be sure, but MacIntyre makes them human, as well as frightening'.

MacIntyre is no stranger to the criminal underworld with a reputation for daring and bold exposes that have seen him endure death threats, kidnapping attempts and assaults.

The documentary which screened at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival earlier this year also screened at the recent Galway Film Fleadh.  It was produced with funding from Bord Scannan na hEireann/the Irish Film Board.
