DAMBÉ-The Mali Project Opens for an Exclusive Limited Engagement at Light House Cinema
The Irish feature length music documentary 'Dambé - The Mali Project', which was directed by Dearbhla Glynn and features musicians Liam O'Maonlaí and Paddy Keenan alongside respected African performers, will open for a limited run at the new Light House Cinema in Smithfield, this weekend, Friday 25th until Thursday 31st July.The documentary which had its world premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year, follows Irish musicians Liam O'Maonlaí and Paddy Keenan as they embark on a musical adventure to the Heart of Africa; Mali. Travelling over 3,000 miles they meet and collaborate with everyone from legendary musicians (Afel Bocoum, Toumani Diabaté) to Nomadic Herders, culminating in a unique performance at the world's most remote musical festival; The 'Festival au Desert'.
The film has been receiving very positive reviews with RTE Entertainment giving it a 5 star rating stating that it was ‘a unique work', ‘a feast for music lovers' and ‘stunningly shot'. The Sunday Business Post and The Irish Indpendent have both given Dambe 4 stars, while The Irish Times has given 3 stars to the documentary.
The film was produced by Vanessa Gildea for Luachra Productions with support from the Irish Film Board and The Arts Council.
