IFB Award-winning Short Films from the Galway Film Fleadh to screen in Dublin
Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, directed by Nicky Phelan and written and performed by Kathleen O'Rourke and The Door, directed by Juanita Wilson will be screening as part of a new initiative "The Best of the West", celebrating the award-winning short films from the Galway Film Fleadh, on Sunday August 10th in the Light House Cinema in Smithfield.
Compiled by award-winning filmmaker Luke McManus (Danger High Voltage), the programme includes the winners of Best Irish Short Film and Best First Irish Short, along with winners in the animation and documentary categories. This special screening will allow Dublin audiences the opportunity to see these short films as part of a compilation presentation, on the big screen, as they were intended to be seen.
Produced by Darragh O'Connell and Brown Bag Films as part of the IFB Frameworks scheme Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty picked up the Best Irish Short Animation prize at the Galway Film Fleadh, while The Door, produced by Louise Curran and James Flynn for Octagon Films as part of the IFB Short Cuts scheme picked up the second prize in the Best Irish Short Film category.
The Galway Film Fleadh awards are a critical and vital element in the progression and development of filmmakers in Ireland, and have served to nurture Irish talent over the years. The Fleadh has long been the festival where up-and-coming filmmakers make their mark, and the inaugural "Best Of The West" will see the winning filmmakers and producers mingle with an invited industry audience and members of the public.
The films will be presented in the state-of-the-art Light House Screen 1 at 4pm after a brief introduction by Galway Film Fleadh board member and filmmaker, Steve Woods. The programme will run approximately 90 minutes and will be followed by a drinks reception in the Light House's café/bar. Tickets for this event can be purchased from the Lighthouse Cinema website at www.lighthousecinema.ie.
This event is presented in association with Element Post-production, CAVS and McConnell's Advertising.
