New Irish Films Screening At Cinemas Nationwide
Two Irish family films are set to open in selected cinemas throughout the country this month, Summer of the Flying Saucer and 32A.Irish director Martin Duffy's acclaimed Summer of the Flying Saucer, starring Robert Sheehan, newcomer Joanne Kiernan, Dan Colley, and Hugh O'Conor, with a cameo from Patrick Bergin, will open at select Irish cinemas on August 8th 2008.
Written by Marteinn Thorisson and produced by Galway-based Magma Films, the story focuses on Dan Mullaney, a 15 year schoolboy who returns from Galway to his home in remote Mayo as a changed person. It is 1967, the "summer of love", and he has embraced the ‘hippy' movement, and his long hair and peace symbol embroidered into his clothing cause consternation among the small-minded locals. Dan is keen to further his education and attend university, but his widowed father cannot see beyond the limitations of the small community. When Dan encounters two strange visitors one night, one of whom is a beautiful girl named Janis, amazing adventures begin.
Also opening in cinemas soon is 32A, the debut feature film written and directed by Marian Quinn which will screen in selected cinemas across Ireland from Friday August 15th.
The film stars Aidan Quinn (Legend of the Falls), Orla Brady (How About You), Jared Harris and Kate O'Toole in a heart-warming tale about the ‘in-between' time of the heroine Maeve's (played by 13 year old Ailish McCarthy) life, when she is no longer a child and not yet a woman. It was produced by Tommy Weir and Janey Pictures with funding from the Irish Film Board, RTE, BCI, MBB and MDM.
