Summer of the Flying Saucer Selected to Compete in International Film Festivals
Summer of the Flying Saucer has been accepted in competition in two international youth film festivals.It will compete in the LUCAS International Children's Film Festival in Frankfurt and the Carrousel International du Film in Canada next month.
Directed by Martin Duffy, the film tells the story of Dan Mullaney, a 15 year old schoolboy in the West of Ireland and his amazing adventures when he encounters two strange visitors one night, one of whom is a beautiful girl named Janis.
The film received its World Premiere at the Cinemagic Film Festival for young people earlier this year and opened in cinemas nationwide August 8th.
Produced by Clodagh Freeman and Ralph Christians with Magma Films, it received funding from IFB, Swedish Film Institute, Film I Vast,Telepool and Eurimages.
LUCAS is the oldest German children´s film festival and was established in 1974. As well as screening international independent films for children from age five to twelve, it holds workshops, symposiums and discussions over the course of the week. This year LUCAS takes place from September 7th - 14th.
Since it started in 1983, the Carrousel International Film Festival has screened the best of youth cinema from all over the world as well as holding conferences and workshops. This year the festival will take place from September 28th to October 5th in Rimouski, Canada.
