Joan Bergin wins Emmy again for Outstanding Costumes on The Tudors

Irish costume designer Joan Bergin and her team picked up an Emmy for the second year running for their work on the television series THE TUDORS at the 60th Creative Arts Emmy Awards which took place in LA over the weekend.

Joan Bergin, Susan O'Connor Cave and Gabriel O'Brien won in the Outstanding Costumes for a Series category at the ceremony, the TV equivalent of the Oscars, beating off stiff competition from Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and the drama Pushing Daisies.

Joan, who picked up the same award at last years ceremony, is a well respected Costume Designer who has worked on many other productions such as In The Name of The Father and The Prestige. She also picked up an IFTA for Best Costume Design earlier this year for her work on the series

Susan O'Connor Cave, the Wardrobe Supervisor on the series, has previously worked on many film productions such as Becoming Jane and The General while Gabriel O'Brien, who is Assistant Costume Designer, has a wide and varied career having worked on features such as Far and Away, Michael Collins and Omagh.

THE TUDORS, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, focuses on the turbulent years of his near 40 year reign as the King of England. While the second series is currently being aired on TV3 and BBC2, filming of the third series is currently underway in various locations throughout Dublin and Wicklow.

The series is an official Irish/Canadian co-production and is co-financed by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB).  THE TUDORS has benefited from the IFB international production fund which encourages international productions to shoot on location in Ireland.

Naoise Barry, the IFB Film Commissioner has said:  "I'm delighted for Joan, her team and all who work on THE TUDORS.  The IFB's international production fund has afforded some excellent opportunities to showcase Irish film talent on an international stage which has been recognized worldwide.  The fund has also allowed those in the industry to gain valuable experience on international productions as one of the key criteria in accessing this fund is that Irish crew must be used on the productions".

The series is produced by TM Productions and PA Tudors, with the support of Morgan O'Sullivan's production company World 2000 Entertainment, for the Showtime US TV channel.
