IFB Partners with TG4 and Arts Council on the Documentary Series Splanc!
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) is delighted to announce a new partnership with TG4 and the Arts Council on the documentary series Splanc! 2008. This year the series will focus on one theme – the art of filmmaking on both the big and small screen in Ireland and the call for submissions is now open.
Splanc! 2008 will take an intimate look at filmmaking in Ireland as a visual expression of Irish culture and will celebrate contemporary film makers, both in the Irish and English language. It will aim to take a broad and inclusive view of the art of filmmaking and the evolution of film as an art form while bringing real artistic and cultural value to primetime television audiences.
TG4, the Arts Council and the IFB are now looking for submissions from film makers and production companies for Splanc! 2008.
Submissions are invited for a series of films (approximately 4 x 25’ / 40’ or 2 x 50’) that will take an intimate look at all forms of storytelling on film in Ireland. Feature film, short film, TV drama, documentary, live action and animation works and all other forms of creative film work should be included. Film will include works recorded or played on film, video, digital or any other format in theatre, on TV or any other medium within or outside of Ireland. Emphasis should remain on the creative process and film making as art with information on policy and funding included only when relevant. Irish film makers who reside abroad or the telling of stories on the Irish diaspora are also relevant.
The series is open to creative interpretation and might for instance take a chronological or thematic journey through the evolution of film making in Ireland. The art of the visual treatment of stories should be to the fore in all episodes to include extracts from the films and other works. Material should remain highly accessible for both festival and TV audiences.
TG4, the Arts Council and Bord Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board encourage the employment of film workers working through the Irish language.
Production budgets should be scaled to a total budget of €170,000. However, Splanc! will accept submissions for projects that can bring additional finance to the project and will allow for the seeking of further funding from other bodies.
Production budgets should be costed to duration and scale of production and should allow for archive clearances for broadcast on TG4 and for world wide festival and theatrical showings.
