New Irish Cinema and Events at the 53rd Cork Film Festival
This year's Cork Film Festival, running from October 12-19, is set to be an exciting and busy festival with the Irish Film Board (IFB) premiering two new short film schemes and the final round of Oscailt. A number of IFB funded feature documentaries and co-productions will be screening throughout the festival and the agency will also be taking part in the STI funded film conference The Business of Shorts.

The last round of Oscailt shorts will screen in the Kino Cinema on Saturday 18th October at 4.30pm along with the Short Cut short The German. Find out more about the Oscailt shorts screening...
The documentaries David Farrell: Elusive Moments, Tailwind, Identities and Til the Tenth Generation and the feature films Helen and The Investigator will screen throughout the festival. Find out more about these films and their screening times....
Along with these screenings, the IFB is involved in an all day film conference The Business of Shorts which has been planned for Friday 17th October. The Business of Shorts is a one-day intensive course for short filmmakers - directors and producers - aimed at maximising the exposure of their shorts. The course will also explore new markets for short film and short content. The layout for the day is as follows:
Session 1: 10.00am-11.15am - "Making Festivals Work For you"
This panel will consist of Festival programmers and curators who will outline what their festivals are looking for and strategies to help your short be selected.
Session 2: 11.30am-12.45pm - "The Cinema Versus the Gallery"
The panel will consist of filmmakers with experience of exhibiting their work in both galleries and in film festivals who will compare the merits of each.
Session 3: 2.30pm-3.30pm - "Short Films - Markets & Trends"
Short film professionals will speak on new platforms and opportunities for short film and short content, including an outline of Irish Film Board support schemes for shorts.
Session 4: 3.45pm-4.45pm - "Case studies: Directors and Producers"
The panel will consist of successful director/producer teams who will outline their approach to successful short filmmaking
