New Irish Films Screening In Cinemas Nationwide In November

Three Irish films Alarm, Kisses and Niko and the Way to the Stars are set to open in selected cinemas throughout the country this month.

The contemporary psychological thriller ALARM, which was written and directed by Gerard Stembridge, is released in cinemas nationwide from November 7th. The film tells the story of Molly. Grieving after her father's violent death but with hopes of a fresh start, she buys a house in a new out-of-town commuter estate. But the promised suburban idyll turns increasingly sinister as she becomes the victim of what appears to be a violent and personal vendetta.

Produced by Anna Devlin and Marina Hughes for Venus Productions (About Adam), it received funding from Bord Scannan na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB), BCI, RTE, GötaFilm International, Film i Väst. Worldwide sales are being handled by Cinema Vault.

Following it's successful screenings at the A-list international festivals Toronto, Locarno, Telluride and London, KISSES is set to be released in Irish cinemas from November 21st.

Written and directed by Lance Daly, KISSES stars 12 year old Kelly O'Neill and Shane Curry as Kylie and Dylan, two young children who decide to run away from their dysfunctional homes and spend a night on the streets of Dublin's inner city. Produced by Macdara Kelleher with Fastnet Films (The Halo Effect, Tonight is Cancelled), the film was funded by the IFB, Film I Vast, the BCI, TV3, and Zentropa. The international rights for the film are being handled by Focus Features.

Meanwhile, Magma Film's cartoon feature film NIKO & THE WAY TO THE STARS, which recently picked up both the Jury and Audience awards at the children's film festival Cinekid in Amsterdam, will hit cinema screens throughout the country from November 28th.

Directed by Michael Hegner, Kari Juusonen, the CGI animated film was co-written by Irish based writer Marteinn Thorisson. It tells the story about a reindeer boy who longs to fly and dreams of one day meeting his father who is a celebrity member of the famous Santa's Flying Forces. His desire to fly and find his real father leads him on a difficult and exciting journey accompanied by his true friend Julius, a flying squirrel, and Wilma a singing weasel whom they meet along the way.

The young Irish actor and voice talent Andrew McMahon gives the voice to Niko while other Irish actors including Alan Stanford feature in the film's voice track. The film has been sold to more than 100 territories, with The Weinstein Company handling the English-language rights.
