OF BEST INTENTIONS Takes Top Honours at Kerry Film Festival

Brian Durnin's short film OF BEST INTENTIONS was selected by Liam Neeson for the top prize at the Kerry Film Festival this weekend.  Brian, who wrote and directed the film, was on hand with producer Paul Holmes to pick up the award.  Jim Sheridan and Brenda Fricker were also present at the screening and award presentation.

The film, based on renowned inventor Thomas Midgley tells the story of five characters whose well-intentioned actions all incur disastrous consequences.

Brian is one of Ireland's leading TV commercials directors and works with Red Rage Films. His previous films An Teanga Runda (2006) and Tilly and the Teeth (2005) have both won numerous awards around the world.

Of Best Intentions is produced by Red Rage Films and funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/IFB and RTE as part of the Short Cuts scheme.  It has been selected for the Foyle Film Festival in Derry at the end of the month and for numerous international film festivals.

Other Irish short films which have been doing well on the international film festival circuit include Frankie and Rolla Saor.

FRANKIE, written and directed by Darren Thornton and produced by Collette Farrell for Calipo Pictures won a Special Jury Award at the Austen Film Festival for Ryan Andrew's performance as Frankie earlier this month.  Frankie was also produced as part of the Short Cuts scheme.

Meanwhile the Oscailt short film ROLLA SAOR, directed by Cathal Watters and written by Brendan Griffin picked up the Audience Award at the Santiago de Compostela Film Festival, Spain.  Produced by Rachel Lysaght for Halflight Productions, the Irish language short also received an Audience Award at the Sapporo Short Film Festival, Japan earlier this year.
