SAVIOURS scoops Best European Documentary in South Africa

SAVIOURS, the Irish feature documentary by Ross Whitaker and Liam Nolan, has won Best European Documentary at the International Film Festival of South Africa.

Following on from domestic awards at the Galway Film Fleadh and Waterford Film Festivals, this is the film's first International Award.

The film features Irish Olympic Medallist Darren Sutherland and is currently on release in Irish Cinemas with Eclipse Pictures. The film has achieved huge critical acclaim since its release, with the Irish Times saying, "Saviours packs as much of a punch as Champ, Raging Bull and all the Rocky films put together," and the Sunday Tribune adding, "Saviours is the kind of film-making that bottles inspiration." The Chicago Tribune described it as "The best in small scale filmmaking."

Whitaker said, "The film has gone down really well with audiences in Ireland and it's rewarding now to see that it can play internationally too. We're absolutely delighted."

"When we started this adventure four years ago, we didn't know where it would take us and we're delighted to see our film getting out there and being enjoyed by audiences abroad as well as at home," Nolan added

Street Films is looking forward to the forthcoming DVD release with Sony Pictures and to getting the film out internationally.
