Irish Short Film THE WEDNESDAYS continues its international success
The Wednesdays, the short film directed by Conor Ferguson scooped the Best International Short Film at the 10th 'City of Soria Short Film Competition' in Spain. The award of €6,000 and a trophy was collected by Luke Clancy who co-wrote the film with Ferguson.It has been a great year for the short film which tells the funny, poignant tale of an elderly couple who rediscover love and adventure with the help of some ecstasy tablets. It recently won the Prix d'Honneur at Beauvais International Film Festival in October and the Olympus Prize for Best Photography at the International Film Festival of Badalona in Barcelona last month.
It picked up audience awards at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand and Chicago Film Festivals earlier this year while the film has recently screened at festivals in Prague, Leeds, Madrid, London, Foyle and Lille, and was a finalist in the TCM Classic Shorts Competition. Jury member Stephen Woolley described the film as, "Very well acted and directed; very funny."
The Wednesdays was produced by Park Films and was funded by the Irish Film Board, the Galway Film Centre and RTE.
