PJ Dillon's debut feature film REDUX will begin shooting in Kildare on Sunday 11th January for three weeks. The psychological thriller which was written and directed by PJ Dillon, will star Amy Huberman (A Film With Me In It, The Clinic), Allen Leech (Rome, Love is the Drug), Owen McDonnell (Single Handed) and Simon Delany (Zonad, Happy Ever Afters).
Set in a rural town, a woman's life is thrown into turmoil when an old boyfriend, who has recently been released from prison, turns up unexpectedly to reveal a past she has kept secret from her husband.
Produced by Alex Jones and John Wallace for Carbon Films, REDUX is funded as part of the Catalyst Project, a scheme launched in 2007 by the IFB, FAS Screen Training Ireland, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI), Filmbase and TV3 aimed at developing new Irish talent.
The Catalyst Project gave three teams the chance to produce a low-budget feature film to the sum of €250,000. The two other successful films were Eamon, written and directed by Margaret Corkery and produced by Seamus Byrne (Zanita Films) which shot in September, and One Hundred Mornings written and directed by Conor Horgan and produced by Katie Holly (Blinder Films) which was filmed in November. The three films are intended to be released theatrically in cinemas across Ireland and screened on TV3 later this year.
2008 was a record for indigenous production activity with a slate of 25 Irish films having gone into production. Many major Irish stars, who have achieved much international success, all returned home to work on Irish films such as Colin Farrell, Neil Jordan, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, Aidan Gillen, Conor McPherson, Ardal O'Hanlon and Colm Meaney.
Exciting new Irish films to look forward to next year include Ondine directed by Neil Jordan, Triage starring Colin Farrell, Perrier's Bounty starring Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson, the beautifully animated film The Secret of Kells (Tomm Moore), Wide Open Spaces starring Ardal O'Hanlon, Cherrybomb starring Robert Sheehan and The Wake Wood starring Aidan Gillen and Eva Birthistle.
