Waveriders to have US Premièe at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival
The US première of the Irish surfing documentary WAVERIDERS directed by Joel Conroy will take place at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Wednesday, January 28th in the historic 2,500 capacity Arlington theatre.Joel and producer Margo Harkin will present the film and take part in a Q&A session while the screening will be attended by world champion surfer Kelly Slater along with the surfers who star in the feature documentary Chris, Keith and Dan Malloy, Gabe Davis and the documentary co-writer Lauren Davies.
WAVERIDERS, which is narrated by Cillian Murphy, had its world première at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival last year where it won the Audience Award for Best Film. It has just been nominated for two IFTA awards (Best Feature Documentary, Best Sound) and will be released in cinemas across Ireland and the UK in early April. Element Pictures Distribution, Ireland have acquired the distribution rights in Ireland and the UK.
The documentary was produced by Inís Films and Besom Productions and financed by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN Partnership, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland with the participation of Bord Scannán na hÉireann / The Irish Film Board.
