Brendan Gleeson nominated for BAFTA

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson has been nominated for a BAFTA in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in In Bruges.  

This is Gleeson's second nomination for the role as he was also shortlisted for the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical award at the recent Golden Globes.  In Bruges received a further three nominations for Original Screenplay (Martin McDonagh), Editing (John Gregory) and also for Outstanding British Film.  

Other Irish talent nominated include producer Redmond Morris who made his mark in the Best Film Category for The Reader, which he co-produced with Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack and Donna Gigliotti and production designer Nathan Crowley, who originates from Ireland, who has been nominated in the Production Design category for his work on The Dark Knight alongside Peter Lando.

Northern Irish film Hunger has been nominated for Outstanding British Film.  Its director and co-writer Steve McQueen will be contesting for The Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement while Michael Fassbinder who plays the lead role in the film has been nominated for the Orange Rising Star Award.  

The BAFTA's will take place next month.
