'The Secret of Kells' Named Best Irish Film at JDIFF

The Secret of Kells directed by Tomm Moore and produced by Cartoon Saloon was named the Best Irish Film by the Dublin Film Critics Circle (DFCC).

The Secret of Kells was the closing film at the festival and the screening was attended by Brendan Gleeson and Mick Lally who provided the voices for the film.

Other awards at the festival include Tomas Alfredson's Let the Right One In which was named Best Film of the festival by the Critics Circle and Anvil! The Story of Anvil won the festival’s Audience Award.

The accolade for Best Film was a close run race to the top spot, with Anvil! The Story of Anvil just narrowly pipping The Secret of Kells and Gran Torino to win the overall Audience Award.

The Critics Forum was broadcast on the Dave Fanning Show RTÉ Radio 1 on Monday evening and the panel was comprised of John Maguire (Sunday Business Post), George Byrne (Evening Herald), Donald Clarke (The Irish Times), Paul Lynch (Sunday Tribune) and DFCC president Tara Brady (Hot Press). The Critics Forum was one of the many industry events that featured as part of the festival.

The festival overall saw an increase in admissions by 15% across its range of films and events, which included a wide variety of industry focused events including a public interview with Cannes General Manager Thierry Fremaux, and Irish actor Liam Neeson, the Casting Symposium, a Creative Cinema panel on low budget filmmaking, a special screening of IFB short films and the IFB Talent Spotlight on Cartoon Saloon and upcoming director Margaret Corkery. The IFB is delighted to be the industry partner of the Jameson International Film Festival.
