Palm Springs International ShortFest Moves to June

The Palm Springs International ShortFest, Short Film Festival and Film Market has moved from its usual date in August and will now take place June 23-29.

Darryl MacDonald, Festival Director said "We've been considering a date change for some time, and ultimately decided that the June dates would provide better placement on the annual festival calendar and more marketing opportunities for our participating film-makers".

The festival which showcases more than 320 short films each year from more than 40 countries has a library of more than 2,700 films available to film buyers, industry and press at the concurrent Short Film Market.

The festival has six competitive categories, with cash awards or film production prizes in each category.  All first place winners in the live action, animation and best of the festival categories automatically qualify for Oscar nomination consideration.

Brown Bag Films Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, directed by Nicky Phelan and written and performed by Kathleen O'Rourke, received the Audience Award for Best Animated Short (runner up) prize at last years festival, while the live action short audience winner Spielzeugland (Toyland) went on to scoop the Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) last month.

Since the festival's inception, 65 short films featured at the event have gone on to garner Academy Award nominations.
