Irish film ‘The Eclipse’ selected for Official Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival
The Irish film THE ECLIPSE directed by award-winning screenwriter and Tony-nominated playwright Conor McPherson has been selected for the World Narrative Feature Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival next month.The Eclipse is a highly atmospheric drama starring Ciarán Hinds (Munich, There Will Be Blood), Iben Hjejle (High Fidelity) and Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall) in the central roles.
Written by McPherson and Billy Roche The Eclipse is a supernatural love story about a widower who is haunted by nightmarish visions. When he volunteers at an international literary festival, his life converges with a beautiful author of supernatural fiction and a self obsessed novelist drawing them into a life-altering collision between the living and the dead.
The World Narrative Feature Competition will present a number of premieres from a wide range of international directors. THE ECLIPSE will screen with eleven other films from established filmmakers including Stay Cool, directed by Michael Polish starring Winona Ryder and Hilary Duff and the Iranian About Elly (Darbareye Elly) written and directed by Asghar Ferhadi.
The Irish film industry won two major awards at the Tribeca Film Festival last year with EDEN picking up the award for Best Actress at the festival for Eileen Walsh's performance, while the Oscar nominated short film NEW BOY scooping the Best Narrative Short Film.
Produced by Rob Walpole for Treasure Entertainment with funding from Bord Scannán na hEireann/ the Irish Film Board, RTE and BCI, The Eclipse shot on location in Cobh, Co. Cork last September.
Originally founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro, the Tribeca Film Festival has grown to become one of the biggest film festivals in North America, screening over 48 world premieres from 33 countries this year.
The Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 22 - May 3. Irish audiences will have an opportunity to see THE ECLIPSE when it is broadcast by RTE 1 later this year.
