Screenings and Activities at This Years Mid Ulster Film Festival

The 6th Annual Mid Ulster Film Festival a yearly tribute to independent cinema is taking place 1st - 3rd May at a new venue The Ulster History Park, Gortin Road, Omagh. 

The location has its own 100-seater cinema and a restaurant, which will be open from 9am-9pm over the festival weekend; Daly's Bar will also be on site.

The festival prides itself on bridging the gap between the studio and independent filmmaking communities and since its inception has aimed to reflect the cultural, visual and narrative diversity of both international and Irish independent filmmakers through its range of programming.

The Opening Night Gala will have a Latino theme with live music being performed by Italian artistes Alberto Gariglio, Stefano Schiavo Campo, Noni Stapleton, Nicole Rourke, ‘Together One Voice' and Keith Mc Dermott.

Throughout the festival weekend, over 80 films will be screened in the Ulster History Park's 3 studios as well as in Cinemobile, a large custom-built truck which converts to a 100-seater cinema.

This year highlights include features such as the highly acclaimed Cinema Paradiso; Nobody's Fool starring Paul Newman; the award-winning Jean de Florette;  late night film 8.5 Hours and a Saturday matinée Cats and Dogs, as well as documentaries such as ¿La Verdad? (The Truth?); Tea on the Axis of Evil and Alaska Far Away - all European premieres.

Workshops at the festival include the ever-popular Pitching Workshop with Barry Devlin, Digital Media with Barry Brown, Radio Broadcasting with Frank Galligan and Music Video with Stephen Mullan.

Other entertainment to look forward to includes the festival Table Quiz, hosted by Brian O'Sullivan, while fringe events comprise art and craft exhibitions by Omagh Community Arts, an Italian exhibition by Omagh Photographic Club, a European Market, film themed treasure hunts and archery for adults and kids.
