Call For Entries for the Foyle Film Festival
Ireland's 22nd Foyle Film Festival are currently looking for submissions for the prestigious Light in Motion (LIM) Awards. The festival takes place from 20th - 28th November at various venues throughout Derry City.This year the competition strand has been streamlined to four categories. The selection process will see entrants battle it out for selection into one of the following four categories:
* Best Irish Short
* Best International Short
* Best Animation
* Best Documentary
Recipients of the LIM Award in any of the shorts categories (Irish/ International/ Animation) will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.
In order to increase access to this very popular aspect of the festival programme, all films entered into competition this year will be eligible to screen on DVD if selected for inclusion in the programme. However, filmmakers should be aware that if their short film wins at Foyle Film Festival, the winning film will have to be available on 35mm film print only if the filmmaker wishes to enter it for Oscar® consideration. The Academy will make no exception to this rule.
Previous winners and competitors have proceeded to win what is known as the ‘ultimate' in film recognition, the Oscar®. Winners include: Martin McDonagh, Director of 'Six Shooter', Andrea Arnold, Director of 'Wasp', Adam Elliot Director of ‘Harvie Krumpet ‘and Eric Armstrong Director of ‘Chubbchubbs'.
