IFB Event at the Galway Film Fleadh : The Real Deal

The Real Deal, Ireland's only film financing seminar will again return to this years' Galway Film Fleadh on Thursday 9th July but with a twist.

Instead of the usual format of panel sessions, the day will now comprise of two round-table debates at which issues confronting independent film - both fiction and documentary features - will be raised, examined and brainstormed.  Each debate will be initiated by contributions from experienced producers, filmmakers and players from the fields of distribution and world sales and will then be opened to a wider discussion.

The first debate Independent Film:  Sunset or New Dawn? will consider the withdrawal of broadcasters, distributors and sales agents from providing production finance, and the almost total dependence of more independent films on various forms of subsidy.  It will also examine new distribution platforms and whether they offer new streams of revenue to replace the old, dried up markets.  Online distribution will also be examined to see if it offers opportunities for a greater diversity of films to find audiences and vice versa.

This debate will be chaired by Simon Perry (Chief Executive, Irish Film Board) and will have contributions from members of the ACE Network of European Producers and senior Irish producers.

The afternoon debate Dox on the Lough - The Return will look at trends in the market for creative, non-fiction documentaries for the big screen with contributions from filmmakers and financiers prominent in the field and will be chaired by Alan Maher (Production Executive, Irish Film Board).

The Real Deal will take place in the Radisson Hotel, Galway on Thursday 9th July.
