About Joan to Receive Exclusive Release in the Irish Film Institute from 3rd March

The Screen Ireland supported French / German / Irish co-production About Joan will be released exclusively in the Irish Film Institute, Dublin from Friday 3rd March by Wildcard Distribution.
The drama, which was filmed in part in Ireland, is directed by Laurent Larivière (I Am A Soldier) and stars the Academy Award-nominated French actress Isabelle Huppert (Elle) together with German actor Lars Eidinger (Clouds of Sils Maria) and Freya Mavor (Sunshine on Leith); and a strong supporting cast of Irish actors including Stanley Townsend (The Current War, Florence Foster Jenkins) and Éanna Hardwicke (Lakelands, Vivarium), who was named as one of Screen Ireland and Screen International’s Rising Stars Ireland last week.
About Joan tells the story of Joan Verra, a loving, independent woman, with a free and adventurous spirit. When she unexpectedly runs into her first love on a street corner in Paris, she decides not to reveal to the once young Irishman that they had a son together. This lie of omission is an opportunity for her to revisit her life: her youth in Ireland, her career, her loves and her relationship with her son. A life fulfilled in appearance, but which hides a secret that she will have to face....
Following its world premiere as a Special Gala at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, About Joan had its Irish premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival last year.
The film was produced by Xavier Rigault and Marc-Antoine Robert for 247 Films and co-produced by Katie Holly for the Irish production company Blinder Films (Love & Friendship, Extra Ordinary) and Reza of Gifted Films West; with executive producers Celine Haddad for Screen Ireland, Evan Horan and Laurence Méoc. It was funded by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinèma, Playtime, Eurimages, CNC, Screen Ireland and Film-und Medienstiftung NRW.
