An Cailín Ciúin to Start Exclusive Limited US Theatrical Run this Friday

Posted: 12th December 2022

After an exceptional theatrical run in the UK and Ireland in 2022, we are delighted to share that the Screen Ireland supported Irish language film An Cailín Ciúín will screen for an exclusive one week limited theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles from this Friday, 16th December.

Described by US distributor Super as a "remarkably moving feature debut", Colm Bairéad's An Cailín Ciúín tells the story of Cáit, a nine year old girl quietly struggling at school and at home. When she is sent away from her overcrowded, dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer, she blossoms in their care - but in this house where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth.

Super had announced its acquisition of the North American rights to the film this September, shortly after its selection as Ireland’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. Since then, the film and its creative team have continued to pick up awards and break records, most recently with Kate McCullough's win for Best European Cinematography at this year's European Film Awards. A full list of the awards won by the film to date can be found here.

The film will screen from this Friday in the Angelika Film Center in New York City and the AMC Sunset 5 in Los Angeles for one week only. A nationwide release will follow in February 2023.

We are proud to see the film continue to travel and move audiences around the world and wish the team behind its US distribution a successful limited run.
