Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) congratulates Saoirse Ronan on her Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical Golden Globe for her role in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. This marks Ronan’s third Golden Globe nomination and her first Golden Globe accolade. The IFB also congratulates Martin McDonagh on his Best Screenplay Golden Globe for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri as the film — which is also directed by McDonagh — took home four awards including Best Motion Picture Drama.
Speaking about the Golden Globes success, IFB Chief Executive James Hickey said:
“On behalf of the IFB, I extend our congratulations to Saoirse Ronan on her Golden Globe win. We are immensely proud of her and are delighted to have supported her down through the years, including in titles such as the multi award-winning, Brooklyn.
“This accolade is the result of years of hard work and dedication and as we continue to witness Saoirse’s ascent this awards season, we wish her continued success.
“We are also thrilled for Martin McDonagh as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home some of the night’s biggest awards. We supported Martin in the early stages of his career with his Academy Award®-winning directorial debut short film, Six Shooter and we are proud to see his star continue to shine on the international stage.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Irish Golden Globe nominees, particularly Nora Twomey and the team behind The Breadwinner. To be nominated in such a hotly contested category such as Best Animated Feature is an incredible feat and the film is not only an urgent and inspiring testament to hope and courage, but also a reminder of the power of animation to bring these messages to wide-reaching audiences.”
